چکیده
We report the identification of a defensive secretion from the green lacewing, Chrysoperla earnea By using combined gas chromatography-electroantennographic detection (GC-EAD), we found one major compound in the solvent extract of this secretion that elicited a significant BAD response from the antenna Based upon its characteristic fragments fiom gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis, the compound was identified as a tridecene Dimethyldisulfide derivatization suggested that a double bond was located between positions 4 and 5 in the carbon chain Thus, the compound was tentatively identified as a 4-tridecene Coinjection of the extract with a mixture of the Z or E form of the synthetic 4-tridecene revealed that the unknown was (2)-4-tridecene BAG dose-responses showed a direct correlation to dose Single sensillum recordings from sensilla trichodea situated on the antennae suggested the presence of receptor neurons specifically responding to this compound An arrestment behavior was observed when tested in the Y-tube olfactometer Preliminary field trapping results indicate that the compound is an antagonist to attraction The avoidance behavior of predatory ants, observed when tested with the synthetic compound of this secretion further suggested a defensive function Key Words-Defensive secretion, green lacewmg, Chrysoperla earned, (2)-4-tridecene, electroantennography, single sensillum recording, alarm pheromone, Chrysopidae, Neuroptera T o whom correspondence should be addressed 0098-033 1/00/1000-2421$18 00/0 @ 2000 Plenum Publishing Corporation

Lack of detrimental effects of Bacillus thuringiensis Cry toxins on the insect predator Chrysoperla carnea: a toxicological, histopathological, and biochemical analysis.
The effect of Cry proteins of Bacillus thuringiensis on the green lacewing (Chrysoperla carnea) was studied by using a holistic approach which consisted of independent, complementary experimental strategies. Tritrophic experiments were performed, in which lacewing larvae were fed Helicoverpa armigera larvae reared on Cry1Ac, Cry1Ab, or Cry2Ab toxins. In complementary experiments, a predetermine...
متن کاملThe Impact of Several Plant Extracts and Essential Oils on Pistachio Psylla (Agonoscena pistaciae) and Its Natural Enemy, Chrysoperla carnea
The common pistachio psylla, Agonoscena pistaciae Burckhardt and Lauterer (Hem.: Aphalaridae), is one of the most important pests of pistachio orchards in Iran. Green lacewing, Chrysoperlacarnea, as a general predator found abundantly in Iranian pistachio gardens, loses its performance under the impression of pesticides spraying. Nowadays, considering environmental pollutions,...

The efficiency of singular and joint usage of third larval instars of ladybeetle, Hippodamia variegata (Goeze) and green lacewing, Chrysoperla carnea (Steph.) was studied against cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover on cucumber plants in greenhouse. The predator-prey ratio of 1:30 reduced the population of pest significantly. Singular and joint usage of predators, however, was not significantly ...

متن کاملSequence Identification, Recombinant Production, and Analysis of the Self-Assembly of Egg Stalk Silk Proteins from Lacewing Chrysoperla carnea
Egg stalk silks of the common green lacewing Chrysoperla carnea likely comprise at least three different silk proteins. Based on the natural spinning process, it was hypothesized that these proteins self-assemble without shear stress, as adult lacewings do not use a spinneret. To examine this, the first sequence identification and determination of the gene expression profile of several silk pro...
